A member of the Belmont Shore Residents Association called this morning to say that a meeting on a proposal that would allow valet parking at Bono's restaurant on Second Street in Belmont Shore has been cancelled. LBReport has the story at http://www.lbreport.com/news/jul09/belmeet.htm

The valet parking public meeting scheduled for Thursday July 16, 2009 at Bayshore Church was cancelled for the SECOND time because the valet parking applicant, Parking Commission Chairman Kurt Schneiter, did not responded to questions about his valet parking proposal that were sent to him by the City. Furthermore, the company contracted by Commissioner Schneiter to provide the valet parking service did not provided required information to the city. Moreover, Diamond Parking, the company currently under contract with Farmers & Merchants Bank to provide parking services for F&M Bank's parking lot, had not been notified of the proposed valet parking to be provided by another company.

I received the below email from Commissioner Schneiter notifying me the valet parking public meeting is cancelled. Notice the professionalism. It appears Commissioner Schneiter claims the reason for cancelling the meeting is due to a conflict with Concert in the Park. As I explained above, that is not what I was told by city hall. Moreover, Commissioner Schneiter indicates the meeting with be rescheduled a third time.

This is the second time the valet parking public meeting has been scheduled and cancelled. The previously cancelled public meeting had been scheduled for May 21, 2009.

Personally, I believe Commissioner Schneiter should have his application for valet parking denied just for the simple fact he failed to provide the city with the required information. It is a waste of city resources to twice schedule public meetings only to be cancelled. It is an also an inconvenience for residents who have twice arranged their schedules to attend those public meetings. Furthermore, it is a conflict of interest by Parking Commission Chairman Schneiter to use his Mayoral appointed position to enhance his personal business interests. Is it possible Commissioner Schneiter continues to postpone these meetings to wear down the overwhelming opposition to his valet parking proposal?

Well, at least residents who planned to attend the valet parking public meeting will not have to miss the Concert in the Park at Marine Stadium that evening.
