Chino prison guard union members protest against guard reduction
The Chino chapter of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) held an informational protest in front of the California Institutions for Men (CIM) on Saturday in opposition to a recent reduction of prison guards.
Protesters were there to provide information to the local community alerting them to concerns raised by the elimination of 37 correctional officer positions from the prison. The organization is urging the public to call CIM warden Mike Poulos to encourage the warden to "put Chino's public safety first."
According to the California Correctional Peace Officer's Association, CIM is understaffed and holds double the amount of inmates it was designed to hold. The reduced number of peace officers at the prison has led to a number of riots and murders, according to the CCPOA.
The CCPOA said fewer corrections officers will mean the prison will be less able to take care of itself and future incidents will continue to rely on local taxpayer-funded police and fire services because the prison will have even fewer correctional officers and will be less able to take care of itself.
LET THE SCARE TACTICS BEGIN.
Just curious - did the prison lose 37 GUARDS or 37 unfilled POSITIONS??? Everyone is feeling the budget crunch and CDCr (as well as the CCPOA who keeps pushing for more and more "lock 'em up" initiatives by funding such legislation as the 3 strikes law, NO on prop 5 and YES on prop 9, etc.) are partly responsible for the budget crisis we're in. Also, EVERY state office is losing positions as well as ACTUAL staff in the bloated and padded state budget. Buck up!

Instead of more gaurds. They should have made more programs available to ex-cons, that want a second chance. 60% of the time guards are babysitting the prisoners the other percent watching tv just like the prisoners.. Yes it can be dangerous but this overcrowding was caused by all these politicians. With one rule in mind lockem up... Now look at the systems. And the easy solution get more gaurds.. Why not more programs why not more jobs for the ex-cons
