Local Soroptimist chapter seeks volunteer to honor

Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley is looking for young women, ages 14 to 17, to apply for the Violet Richardson Award, an annual financial award given to a local young woman in recognition of her service to the community.

According to the Soroptimists, the award winner will be a young lady who has identified a problem in her community or the world and has worked to address the issue. The award recognizes young women who make the community and world a better place through their volunteer efforts.

Past winners are young ladies who have seen challenges instead of obstacles and optimists who have seen hope instead of despair. The award winner will receive $500 and an additional $500 for her charity of choice.

Applications are due by Dec. 15, 2008 and the recipient will be notified in March. Those interested in applying or who know someone who qualifies, should contact Sandra Sue Bright at (909) 628-0600 for an application.
