CHINO -- Police are searching for a man they say abducted a 15-year-old girl as she was walking to school Wednesday morning near Don Lugo High School.
The girl was forced into a silver two-door vehicle at gunpoint before the man drove around the block and attempted to sexually assault her. After searching her bag and patting her down, the man released her unharmed in the area where she was abducted, police said.
Police are looking for a hooded, bespectacled man they say approached the student at 6:20 a.m. in the 13200 block of Ballestros Avenue, near Chino and Ramona avenues.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned Latino, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and wearing wire-rimmed glasses, a light gray zip-up hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
The Chino Valley Unified School District responded to the incident by issuing an alert notice to parents indicating that students should not walk alone to or from school.
"Please speak to your children and advise them to be aware of their surroundings and when possible, walk to and from school with other students," the notice said.
City spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden said police are following up on a couple of leads in their investigation and police patrols in the area have been increased, officials said.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Chino Police Department at (909) 591-9861.
Chino Valley district spokeswoman Julie Gobin said the incident occurred before school started and did not take place on school grounds, so a lockdown of nearby schools was not necessary.
