Salon's fundraiser to support autism-advocacy organization

Haircuts can be one of the hardest self-care rituals for people with autism.
These struggles have inspired a hair salon receptionist and parent of a child with autism to hold "Cut Away Autism."
Haircuts will be given at a discount on Saturday. All the money raised will be donated to Autism Speaks at Rozzies Hair Salon, 13788 Roswell Ave., Chino.
Haircuts will be $20 for women and $10 for men and children -- more than 50 percent off what the salon typically charges.
At least two classes of young people with autism have been invited.
"I take comfort in knowing I'm working to help fight for a cure with so many other wonderful people," said Heather Torigian, a salon receptionist and parent of Logan, 11.
Torigian and her family have been inspired by Logan's diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome and are expected to take part in several community activities to support him.
The family expects to take part in the eighth annual Walk Now for Autism Speaks in April 2010 in Pasadena. Last year, the walk hosted 17,000 people at the Rose Bowl and raised $1.27 million.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism; and advocating for the needs of people with autism and their families.
