Theft and vandalism at city recreation center
Thieves disrupted activities for several days at Chino Hills' Founders Recreation Center.
Recreation employees on Nov. 28 reported that the site had no electrical power, as thieves had stolen copper wiring from the emergency generator and the buildings.
Public Works employees restored operations at the center by bringing in four portable generators.
Employees on Monday discovered that the facility had been broken into and the city's eight-passenger van had been stolen. The van had four generators, a television, a computer and various computer accessories.
The van was found Tuesday in Diamond Bar.
Classes and events scheduled at the facility were relocated elsewhere or cancelled. The center was closed for several days for repairs.
The Chino Hills Police Department has taken reports on the vandalism and thefts. It is not known if the two incidents are related.
The center is at 2000 Founders Drive.
