Upcoming DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint

| | Comments (1)
Officers of the Chino Police Department's Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint today from approximately 8 p.m. through early Saturday morning. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol related crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

At the checkpoint, Officers will be looking for drivers who exhibit signs of alcohol or drug impairments; Officers will also verify proper licensing and will strive to only impact motorists momentarily. If an Officer suspects that a driver has been drinking or is impaired, a field sobriety test will be conducted. Those failing the field sobriety test will be arrested, their vehicle impounded, and they will face jail time; fines; fees; DUI classes; and increased insurance rates, all of which can cost upwards of $10,000.

The public should call 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
