Planes of Fame Air Museum at the Chino Airport will feature Russian Combat Aircraft as the subject of its monthly Living History Flying Event this Saturday, July 2 at 10 a.m.

Come watch as pilot Tom Camp flies the Yak-3.

Saturday's event will begin at 10 a.m with a discussion panel featuring historian, author and founder of the Museum, Ed Maloney, historian and photographer Frank Mormillo and historian Kevin Thompson.  They will describe the combat aircraft that Russia employed both as America's ally and its enemy during the 20th Century.  Tom Camp will also be answering questions about the restoration of the Yak3 as well as what it is like to pilot this fast and manueverable aircraft.

Planes of Fame Air Museum's Yak-3 started life as a two seat Yak-11 trainer that had been obtained by Stephen Grey in England and shipped to Russia for conversion into a single-seat Yak-3.  During the late 1980's Flight Magic of Santa Monica undertook groundbreaking negotiations with Yakovlev officials to reinstate the Yak-3 into production using an Allison V-1710 power plant. After being obtained by Planes of Fame, Tom Camp completed and assembled the Yak and prepared it for test flights.  Once the testing was complete, John Maloney painted the Yak in the same Normandie-Niemen colors used by pilot Marcel Albert.

The Planes of Fame Museum is located at 7000 Merrill Avenue, Chino.
