A Rolling Stones tribute concert will be held at the Chino Civic Cnter, 7 p.m. Thursday night, as part of Kiwanis summer concert series.
The Chino Valley Foodie Truck Festival returns on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Don Lugo High School (13400 Pipeline Avenue, Chino) as a fundraiser and the annual State of the District for Chino Valley Unified School District.
In addition to a dozen of Southern California's favorite gourmet food trucks, the return of the Chino Valley Foodie Truck Fundraiser will include CVUSD's annual State of the District with Board of Education President James Na headlining the event. Student organizations are invited to participate in Chino Valley's first district-wide flash mob dance, the group dance phenomenon that is also generating excitement.
"Our inaugural Chino Valley Foodie Festival in April was a terrific community day that helped raise money for our schools," said district spokeswoman Julie Gobin. "There was a lot of interest in the event so we determined to mesh the Foodie Truck Festival Fundraiser with the annual State of the District with the goal of broadening the appeal. We are very excited!"
Many of Southern California's popular trucks, including Bool BBQ, Buttermilk Truck, Cool Haus Truck, Don Chow Tacos, the Frysmith Truck, Lardon Truck, Lee's Philly, Rebel Bite Truck, Tapa Boy, Shrimp Pimp, and the Sweets Truck, will join the Sept. 17 Foodie Festival. Prices vary from $2 and up. Outside food and beverages will not be permitted.
Tickets for the Chino Valley Foodie Fundraiser will be $6 in advance with children under 5 years free. It's not too late to get involved in the Chino Relay for Life, which takes place in two weeks, on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6 and 7 at Ayala Park, located at 5575 Edison
Avenue in Chino.
The event schedule involves an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday, a survivor's lap at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, a Luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m. on Saturday, and fight back closing ceremony on 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Chino's Cadet Squadron 20 was named Squadron of the Year at the Civil Air Patrol Inland Empire Group 3 Awards banquet. First Lt. Charlene Gunter of Chino Cadet Squadron 20 was also named as Safety Officer of the Year.

The civil air patrol performs 90 percent of inland search and rescue missions in the continental United States, and saved 72 lives in 2009. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the more than 24,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. The 4th annual Josie Cordero Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at El Prado Golf Course on Monday 25, 2011; all proceeds will benefit the Chino Relay for Life. The golf course is located at 6555 Pine Avenue in Chino.
Event registration will take place at 11 a.m., followed by a shot gun start at 12:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m., and a raffle, live auction, and awards presentation at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $90 for a single player and $360 for a foursome and includes a game of golf, a golf cart, lunch, goody bag, and dinner.
Josie Cordero was known to many in the community as an "El Prado icon," because she worked at the golf course for 25 years before passing away in May 2007 from cancer. Since her death, her family has rallied together in the hope of sparing others the pain that so many others have suffered due to this deadly disease.

Four young people from Chino, members of the Chino Pumas Track Club, have qualified for the 2011 USATF National Junior Olympics Track and Field Championships at Wichita State University, Cessna Stadium, in Wichita, Kansas. The track team will be there from Tuesday through Sunday. Stephen Reyes will be competing in the 100-meter dash and Shot Put event; Kyle McCray will be competing in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash; Taylor Crockem will be competing in the discuss throw and shot put; and Marguerite Crockem will be competing in the pole vault.

Chino Hills Recreation Department on Aug. 5 will host a summer Tike Hike around Lake Los Serranos for children from 3 to 6 years old and their parents.
The hike will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at English Springs Park at the corner of Chino Hills Parkway and Grand Avenue.
At the end, participants will be invited to make a craft project and enjoy a snack.
Cost is $6 per child.

There is still time to join thousands of communities nationwide such as Chino Hills for the 28th Annual National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event.
The Aug. 2 event was designed to heighten awareness and to strengthen police-community relationships.
Neighbors will be able to gather, get reacquainted and discuss how to make their neighborhoods safer, according to city officials.
Residents can join the effort by getting together with their neighbors to organize barbecues, potlucks or dessert socials on their block.
In Chino Hills, City Council members, San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies, Chino Valley Independent firefighters, Citizens on Patrol volunteers and even McGruff the crime-fighting dog will visit registered neighborhoods.

Fall registration for Chino Hills' Tiny Tots Program, which teaches academic and socialization skills to children from 3 to 5 years old, will be held Aug. 6.
Participants are involved in a variety of activities, such as games, craft projects and supervised free time.
Children must be potty-trained and a birth certificate must be presented at registration.
Chino Hills residents receive priority and may participate in a lotto drawing from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Founders Recreation Center, 2000 Founders Drive.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m.
If space is available, non-Chino Hills residents may register during the week of Aug. 22.
The Tiny Tots program is offered at Mystic Canyon Community Building, 6424 Mystic Canyon, and Founders Recreation Center.
The fall session is from Aug. 29 to Oct. 7.
Level I is for kids who will be three years old by Aug. 30. The group meets from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $82.
Level II is for boys and girls who will be four years old by Dec. 2 and are eligible to start indergarten in the fall of 2011. The group meets from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Cost is $92.

Chino Hills business owners will be able to showcase their businesses and offer pre-packaged items for sale on Friday, Sept. 23 at Chino Hills Day at the L.A. County Fair.
The "Business Expo" is offered for the third year at a new, higher-visibility location.
Participation in the Business Expo will be coordinated by the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Applications can be downloaded at www.chinohills.org/BusinessExpo or picked up at the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce, 13150 Seventh St., Chino.
Complete application packages will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis until all booths have been assigned. Requests to share a booth will also be considered.
Business owners have to complete a Business Expo application and provide a certificate of general liability insurance -- $1 million combined single limit of bodily injury and property damage, naming the Fair and their agents as additional insured.
Only one of any type of business will be allowed due to the limited number of spaces.
Businesses owners must have their primary business address in Chino Hills and have a current business license.
Chamber membership is not required.
Selected businesses will be assigned an 8 x 8 canopy on the center aisle near Broadway and Palm streets near the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts.
The Business Expo may not feature the following categories: beverages, cookware, pay TV services, grocery stores, magnetic therapy jewelry and vehicles.

The Chino Day at the L.A. County Fair on Sept. 7 will celebrate the city, its residents, businesses, community groups, civic organizations and schools.
Chino Day will feature the Chino Community Day Parade, Community Hero Celebration as well as 12 interactive exhibits, all of which align with state education curriculum standards.
There is no cost for students and their teachers to attend.
Chino residents will pay $5 for admission when advance tickets are purchased online.

The Chino City Council at its July 5 meeting unanimously approved a resolution amending the comprehensive speed zone of the Chino Municipal Code.
Most of the speed limits in the city will remain the same.
Eighteen locations were reduced by 5 miles, including Chino, Edison and Grand avenues as well as Pomona Rincon Road and Riverside Drive.
Currently, city staff members are posting new signs and flagging the decreased speed zones in an effort to alert the motorists of the reductions.
The Chino Police Department, along with their normal enforcement efforts, will be incorporating an education period to allow the motoring public time to adhere to the new speed regulations, according to city officials.
Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce's Summer Mixer Series is from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Blue Fire Grill, 5670 Schaefer Ave., and Aug. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Honolulu Harry's, 12206 Central Ave., both in Chino.

Officials in Chino and Chino Hills issued 48 citations for illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July, according to a Chino news release.
Each citation carries a fine of $1,000.
Forty-seven of the citations were issued in Chino and one in Chino Hills, according to the news release.
Officials said they confiscated numerous commercial-grade airborne fireworks, known as mortars. The seized fireworks fill one-and-a-half 55-gallon drums, according to the news release.
There were no fires from fireworks during the holiday, though there was one injury, officials said.
An 18-year-old Chino man suffered a head injury while using illegal fireworks. He was treated at the Chino Valley Medical Center in Chino, according to the news release.

Temperatures are climbing and water sources in open space areas are drying up, so wildlife may be coming down into neighborhoods in Chino Hills to find water and food.
As a result, city officials say people who live in areas where urban development meets open space areas must learn to act responsibl<NO1>e<NO>y as neighbors to local wildlife, according to a city news release.
Residents living near open spaces must take steps to make their neighborhoods less attractive to coyotes that follow the food sources.
Here's some safety tips for locals:
-Do not leave pet food or water outdoors.
-Remove brush and dense weeds from around your property.
-Supervise small children and small animals, even in your yard.
-Keep small pets indoors and bring pets in after dark.

The Chino Hills STARS program -- Supplies to Assist "R" Students -- helps children in the city who are unable to afford basic school supplies and backpacks for the 2011-12 school year.
The city is accepting donations of backpacks and school supplies to benefit boys and girls in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Preliminary information collected by the Chino Valley Fire District, Chino Police Department,
and Chino Hills Police Department indicate that there were no fireworks-related fires or fireworks related emergency responses in the cities of Chino and Chino Hills during the Fourth of July holiday.
There were six patrol cars assigned to fireworks enforcement in the City of Chino and one
Sheriff's Department/Chino Hills Police Department patrol car assigned to enforcement in Chino ills. Two Chino Valley Fire District fire inspectors were assigned to patrol cars in Chino and a Fire District fire inspector was also assigned to the Sheriff's Department unit in Chino Hills.
There were a total of 47 citations issued with $1,000 fines for use of illegal fireworks in Chino
and one citation was issued in Chino Hills.
The total amount of confiscated fireworks was 5,904. Commercial grade airborne fireworks,
also known as mortars, were the majority of confiscated fireworks. One and a half 55
gallon drums filled with confiscated mortars were collected during the holiday.
One fireworks related injury was reported involving an 18 year-old male in Chino, who sustained head injury while using illegal fireworks and was treated for his injuries at the Chino Valley Medical Center.

Chino Valley Fire District firefighters were dispatched at 1:25pm to the 5100 block of Chesapeake Court in Chino for a reported near drowning. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 4-ear-old boy near-drowning victim with CPR already in progress. Fire crews immediately began treatment, with the patients condition rapidly improving. The patient was transported by air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center
A free Immunization Clinic for students with no insurance will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Chino High School, 5472 Park Place, Chino. Parents or guardians must attend and bring their child's immunization record. The event is only for students with no health insurance.
A Korean War Memorial to honor vets is coming to Chino via the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino. The memorial, slated for completion in 2012 on the southeast corner of Cal Aero Drive and Merrill Avenue, will feature two fighter jets from both sides of the conflict, the F-86 Sabre and a Mig-5 on display, and a commemorative plaque. Budget for the project is $100,000 and the museum is looking for donations.
