Bill Ayers to speak at Pitzer College Monday

spring2009-ayers.jpgBill Ayers, co-founder of the radical left group Weather Underground, will speak on "The State of Democracy in America: A lecture on the election of President Obama and the importance of civil activism and education."

The speech will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday as part of Pitzer's Dining with Democracy inside the Gold Student Center Multipurpose Room at Pitzer College.

Pitzer College is at 1050 N. Mills Ave. The speech is free and open to the public.

Ayers, a Distinguised Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois, had his now-defunct Weather Underground labeled as terrorists by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the 1970's.

Some people might know Ayers from Republican vice president candidate Sarah Palin's comment during the 2008 presidential campaign that the then Democratic presidential candidate Obama was "palling around with terrorists."

The comment was directed at Obama because he had served with Ayers on charity boards and Ayers group was labeled as terrorists by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
