Water district board member Xavier Alvarez had his jury selection moved to June 8 while a readiness hearing will take place June 3.

The jury selection, not trial, was set to take place today, said Los Angeles Superior Court spokeswoman Patricia Kelly.

The hearing and jury selection will take place at Pomona Superior Court, Kelly said.

Commissioner Wade Olson will oversee the June readiness hearing, she said.

Alvarez has pleaded not guilty to illegally registering his ex-wife for health benefits with the Three Valleys Municipal Water District.

Previously, Alvarez was fined and sentenced to probation in July for violating the Stolen Valor Act, which criminalizes false claims of military valor. He claimed he had received the Medal of Honor.

In the current case, Alvarez faces a maximum sentence of five years in state prison if convicted on the charges.
