Claremont Unified School District meeting Thursday
A Claremont Unified School District meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday inside the Board Room of the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center, 170 W. San Jose Ave. A closed session, about contract negotiations with the Claremont Faculty Association and the California School Employees Association, Claremont Chapter No. 200, takes place at 6:30 p.m.
Among the agenda items:
A Telephone System Upgrade where a "new Cisco VOIP solution that adds a new phone into every classroom. The solution would address our current phone problems and resolve a student and staff safety issue.
Cost for the Cisco system would be $411,040 with a reoccurring cost of $18,185. While this option is initially more costly than upgrading our current Nortel system, after a 5-year period of time the District would begin to see a savings of $30,000 per year. An initial $250,000 cost would come from recovery/stimulus funds with the rest being made over a 5-year lease period. Not included in the cost estimate is the potential to sell all old Nortel equipment. The proceeds from such a sale could be used to help offset the cost of the new system."
