A day of giving recently occurred at Western Christian School.

After a memo from principal Michelle Browning was sent out to families explaining how the food pantry was low and needed turkeys to feed families in the community for Thanksgiving, dozens of turkeys were given from families.

Browning also sent a memo asking families if they had any fruit trees in their yard and would like to donate them to Montclair's "Kid Kare Food Pantry" to share the produce with the hungry and many people signed up to pick fruit off the trees.

La Verne Police Chief Scott Pickwith also visited the Claremont school on the day of giving after an eighth grade Bible class selected him as a leader they wanted to "encourage and pray for," according to a news release from the school at 3105 Padua Ave.

After being greeted in a "student tunnel" where students cheered and wanted to shake his hand, he told them about his background, family and professional life.

Pickwith also explained how students could help in the communities.

The day of giving was Nov. 19.
