City manager reports on Claremont happenings
City Manager Jeff Parker issues a report online every week that details
happenings in the city. Here is a quick round-up of the report:
- Foothill Country Day School had its building permits issued this week for a new 13,000 square foot classroom and office building at the school.
- Claremont is looking for proposal requests for the Community Based Organization and Homeless Program's 2010-11 funding cycles. Requests must be sent using a city-provided application form. Requests selected will based on projects or programs that bes taddress the community's priorities and needs identified by the city council, youth and family master plan and the senior master plan. Community non-profit groups interested in having their programs or projects considered can submit an application at www.ci.claremont.ca.us; calling the Human Services Department at (909) 399-5356 or e-mail kturner@ci.claremont.ca.us.
- A Holiday Toy Express 2009 event will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday
The event will feature Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and friends on the 450-ton Metrolink Holiday Toy Express train. Besides the train, there will be live music, 50,000 lights and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Southland firefighters ``Spark of Love'' toy drive. If weather's bad, call Metrolink's customer service line at (800) 371-5465.
- Claremont residents age 60 and over can apply to audit classes at the Claremont Colleges for free through the Claremont Avenues for Lifelong Learning program. Nonresidents can also apply but priority is given to Claremont residents. The program is available through the Claremont Senior Program, the Committee on Aging and the Claremont Colleges. Registration for the 2010 spring semester will open soon while the application and course offerings will be available in mid-December on the city's Web site. Previous attendees will be mailed the date the information will be released. The Joslyn Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., will have hard copies of the application and course offerings. For information, call (909) 399-5360.
- The third annual Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission Trip ``Feed the Homeless'' takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 23. Staff and students will meet in the Youth Activity Center at 8:30 a.m. while the first 10 YAC participants to turn in their slips will be able to attend because space is limited.
