The city of Claremont received a Green Leadership Award Tuesday from the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments and Southern California Edison.

The award was given at the Energy Efficiency Awards Luncheon at the Pacific Palms Hotel in the City of Industry Hills. The award was given because: "Claremont has shown outstanding commitment to improving the environment across all sectors, including energy efficiency, particularly through its efforts related to the Sustainable Claremont Initiative," according to a news release.

In a news release, councilman Sam Pedroza said: "Local government is in an unique position to serve in a leadership capacity and as a role model to residents in implementing cost-effective measures that save energy and improve our environment. In the City of Claremont we have embraced this role and endeavored to collaborate with our residents through the Sustainable Claremont Initiative. It is an honor to be recognized within our region and alongside our peers for these efforts."
