Special Las Posadas ceremony to be held Dec. 8 and 9
Claremont Heritage and Pacific Advisors Group will sponsor the Las Posadas ceremony to be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and Dec. 9 at Padua Hills Theatre.
The theatre is at 4467 Padua Ave.
The Mexican tradition of Las Posadas is about how in Mexico each night, for nine days, before Christmas has special Las Posadas ceremonies to reenact Mary and Joseph's trip to look for shelter from Nazareth to Bethlehem, according to a Claremont Heritage news release.
After children hold a candlelight procession while they knock on doors and sing for a place to stay, the last day of Christmas Eve features a fiesta with dances and the breaking a piƱata.
Escuela de Bellas Artes de Pomona, a bilingual group, will hold a shortened version of the tradition. The Grupo Folklorico Orgullo de Aztlan will perform traditional Mexican dances.
Light refreshments will be served and performances are suitable for children as young as age 5.
The fee is $15 for adults and $5 for children under age 12.
Each night will feature the same performance.
Reservations are necessary because of limited space.
A check can also be sent indicating which evening one would want to attend.
