Car strikes Claremont pedestrian


CLAREMONT - A man in his 50s who was struck by a car as he crossed the street Saturday is back home and recovering from his injuries.

The victim, whose name was not released, was injured at 4:30 p.m. Saturday when a driver hit him at Indian Hill Boulevard and San Jose Avenue.

Police Sgt. John Costa said the man was hit as the driver, a woman in her 50s, attempted a left turn onto southbound Indian Hill from San Jose.

The pedestrian was in the crosswalk headed east on San Jose at the time.

Costa said no drugs or alcohol were believed to be involved, Costa said.

The man suffered head and arm injuries and was airlifted to County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, police said.

Both the driver and pedestrian are Claremont residents.

Claremont ATM burglarized, nothing taken


Claremont police are investigating a burglary that happened Wednesday near the Claremont Medical Center.

Burglars cut a hole into the roof of the building in the 1000 block of West Foothill Blvd. in Claremont and cut into the back of a store ATM about 8:30 p.m., Sgt. John Costa said.

Police responded after the building alarm was activated. When they arrived, the rear door to the business was open and wires to the ATM alarm had been cut.

Nothing was taken from the ATM, Costa said.

Two Claremont men caught with narcotics


Two men were arrested for possession and sales of narcotics Monday.

Shayne Gillispie, 20, and Cameron Thompson, 19, both of Claremont, were arrested around 5:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Northwestern Drive after officers responded to a call about people smoking narcotics in a vehicle.

Officers detained three people after they arrived, according to a Claremont police news release.

Thompson was arrested after police found he had heroin with him. Gillispie was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center because officers suspected he swallowed narcotics. Gillispie later regurgitated 15 balloons of heroin, according to the release.

The third suspect was released at the scene.

Police later served a search warrant at Gillispie's home and discovered more heroin and some cocaine, according to the release.

Thompson was booked into Claremont jail on suspicion of possessing cocaine and heroin. Gillispie was booked on suspicion of possession of heroin for sale.
