Claremont trolley sold

Trolley_Full_View.jpgThe Claremont trolley was sold for $75,000 and shipped to Hawaii, city manager Jeff Parker said at the Tuesday city council meeting.

The trolley was drove was driven to the city of Long Beach and then a "little boat" took it, Parker said.

"So sometime if someone goes to Hawaii, they may see the Claremont trolley in operation over there some place," Parker said.

Parker did not say who the trolley was sold to.

One of our most significant stories of 2009 was the trolley:

"The Claremont Trolley's final bell rang on June 1. The City Council voted in May to terminate the trolley, which had struggled with ridership. Taking the trolley out of service saves the city $210,540 a year. The trolley was approved by the City Council in January 2008, and service started later that year."

I paraphrased the quote wrong, sorry. Here is the actual quote: "The trolley was then driven down to Long Beach, where it got on a little boat," city manager Jeff Parker said before councwoman Linda Elderkin interjected "went to Hawaii! " then Parker concluded ... "travelled its way to Hawaii."
