2010 House Decorating Contest forms can be received through Thursday

The 2010 House Decorating Contest, with the theme of "Star Spangled Claremont, is ongoing through 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a city news release.

A grand prize winner will receive: recognition at the Pre-parade reception; four fireworks tickets; place in the parade; recognition at the July 5 summer concert; "Grand Prize Winner" sign to post on their house or property for a week; and given a flag that flew over the Capital.

The second and third place winners will receive recognition at the July 5 summer concert and a second or third place sign to post on their house or property for a week.

The rules are that a first prize is available once in a three-year period; only properties within the Claremont city borders are eligible; house decorations to be judged include only outside decorations that are visible from the street; a representative from the grand prize winning household must be available to ride in the parade (one car only); the American Flag may be used only in accordance with the recognized Flag Code.

Spirit, appearance and creativity are the three criteria for judging.

Entry forms must be sent to Human Services by 5 p.m. Thursday with judging complete June 27.

Winners will be notified June 27 and the winner signs will be posted.

The Grand Prize winner will attend the pre-parade reception and rides in the parade July 4 with all winners attending the summer concert series on July 5 to accept the award plaque.
