Anyone interested in the planning, community services, police, architectural, human services and traffic and transportation commissions can fill out an application to fill end-of-term vacancies by 6 p.m. June 17.

Applications will be submitted to the city clerk's office with the purpose to "advise and assist the City Council in addressing issues related to the commission's area of concern. They do this by gathering pertinent information, hearing arguments, weighing values, and making recommendations to the Council," according to a city news release.

The mayor (Linda Elderkin) will appoint applicants to the seven-citizen commissions after consultation and approval with city council.

Qualifications, according to the news release, are "Claremont residency (with certain exceptions), a strong interest in the community and the work of the commission, and the ability to give generously of one's time while serving."

A two-member city council sub-committee will schedule an interview with all applicants and the council's goal is "to appoint individuals who reflect the diversity of the community," according to the news release.

Information and applications and information are available in the city clerk's office from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at City Hall, 207 Harvard Ave. and www.ci.claremont.ca.us.

For questions, call the city clerk's office 909-399-5461 or 909-399-5463.
