Celebration of the Arts to be held Saturday

The 40th annual Celebration of the Arts, to highlight Native Calfornia culture and arts, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Petterson Museum of Intercultural Art at Pilgrim Place.

Acjachemen tribe member Jacque Tahuka-Nunez will start the day off with a 10:30 a.m. opening blessing ceremony with a story telling afterward at 11 a.m.

Cahuilla tribe member Steve Ruiz will perform at 1 p.m. on the native flute and a closing ceremony and dance performance with Constanoan Rumsen Carmel tribal dancers takes place at 2 p.m.

Besides the ceremonies, story telling and performances, contemporary and historic native California art exhibits will be displayed.

Native crafts, plants, food and art from the Pomona College's Museum of Art special collection will be showcased.

Fry bread will be made with Chia lemonade onsite while youths can participate in jewelry making and rock painting.

The Petterson Museum Friends is sponsoring the annual spring celebration.
