CFA negotiations update

Claremont Faculty Association president Joe Tonan said a tentative agreement between the union and the Claremont Unified School District was signed at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Tonan said on Tuesday a ratification meeting about the agreement with union members is scheduled for Thursday and members will be voting early next week. The school board still needs to vote on the agreement also.

When asked if the two sides came to the agreement to support the district's upcoming $95 million bond measure, Tonan said no.

"What took so long to get it done was we wanted to protect the full 180 days of school,"

Tonan said. "We wanted to protect teachers from layoffs. We wanted to protect class sizes. We still have disagreement with the issue on reserves ... there's a number of factors but trying to rush to get to a bond was not a consideration."
