The Inland Valley Chapter of the National Association of Women In Construction will hold its annual National Education Foundation "Block Kids" event on Feb. 16.

About 40 third graders will participate from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Sumner School, 1770 Sumner Ave.

According to a news release, the block-kids building program is a national building program competition local NAWIC chapters and other organizations sponsor.

"The award winning program introduces children to the construction industry in an effort to create an awareness of and to promote an interest in future careers in one of the many facets of the industry," according to the news release.

Elementary school children in first through sixth grades participate in the program, which features competition involving the building of structures with blocks and three items along with a hard hat and goody bag.
