Mayor Sam Pedroza was involved in a cycling crash Tuesday night but his injuries are not life threatening, officials said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department inspector Matt Levesque said the crash happened at 8:23 p.m. Tuesday at 246 E. Arrow Highway.
Levesque said Pedroza "fell off the bike" but the report said nothing about how the incident happened.
City manager Jeff Parker said Pedroza was thrown from his bike after crashing into a parked utility truck. His head hit the back of the bed of the truck.
"We don't know if he was riding and somebody honked at him or what happened to have him run into the vehicle," Parker said.
Parker said Pedroza sustained injuries consisting of a fracture to his nose, a laceration across his nose and cheek and small fracture of the C4 vertebrae in his neck.
"He has complete use of his arms, legs and no neurological damage was reported. He's coherent and recognized us when he came in last night and today."
Pedroza, who wore a helmet, also sustained a few stitches in his tongue after biting his tongue when the crash happened, Parker said.
Pedroza was airlifted to USC County Medical Center and the injuries are generally described as serious but not life threatening.
