Pomona College professor of mathematics Ami Radunskaya was recently named co-director of the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) summer workshop and mentoring program, according to a college news release.

The EDGE program, which features female mathematicians starting Ph.D. programs, will be at Pomona College this summer for 25 days.

The program recently received a $290,000 National Science Foundation grant and a $17,500 National Security Agency grant that will fund it through 2012.

Pomona College has hosted the summer conference in 2003 and 2008.

"We think of everyone in the program as a 'participant,'" said Radunskaya in a news release, "not just the students starting graduate school. This reflects our belief that what we need to do in order to support the diversity we desperately need in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields is to build a community that will slowly change the current culture."
