Fourth annual Claremont Village Blues and Brews on Saturday

CLAREMONT – The fourth annual Claremont Village Blues and Brews, featuring 30 businesses as food sampling and craft beer tasting sites, takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Check in sites will start at 3:45 p.m. and tickets are $40 a person for participants aged 21 and over. A photo I.D. is required at the check-in site.

For the fee, participants get 12 beer tasting tickets, a wristband, a commemorative pilsner and a map of participating businesses. Breweries taking part include Dale Bros., Ballast Point, Hangar 24, Claremont Craft Ales, Bootleggers Brewery, Karl Strauss, La Verne Brewing Co., Stone and more.

Additionally, there are several non-alcoholic sites and bands at numerous locations will take place. Bands participating include Claremont Voodoo Society, Swing 4 Sale, Hank’s Cadillac, Stan West Blues Band, Jeffs’ Tobacco Road Trio and more.

A portion of the proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations Shoes That Fit, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Auxiliary and Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden.

Claremont house decorating contest date set

CLAREMONT – A house decorating contest, open to all Claremont residents, will take place on June 23.

The 2013 Independence Day Committee, according to a news release, will judge the competition based on creativity, spirit and appearance.

According to the release, decorations are also required to be outdoors and visible from the street.

A grand prize winner will receive recognition at the city of Claremont’s 4th of July Celebration as well as an American flag that flew over the Capital, a designated place in the parade and fireworks tickets.
