All San Gabriel Valley residents that are Southern California Edison customers can exchange an old, incandescent holiday light string for a new, efficient light strong from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7.
The light exchange takes place during the holiday promenade at the Claremont Depot, 200 W. First St., according to the city manager’s Nov. 21 report.
Those who want to participate must show their Edison bill for eligibility and each qualifying customer can exchange one string of lights per household while the supplies last, according to the report.
The San Gabriel Valley Energy Wise Partnership (SGVEWP) and a collaboration between Southern California Edison (SCE) and the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments is funding the exchange.
The SGVEWP is using the opportunity to instruct residents about energy efficiency benefits while reducing energy usage in the holiday season.
Light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, are energy efficient and could use up to 90 percent less energy than comparable incandescent bulbs, according to the report.
