Wednesday was the first day of school for about
21,000 students from the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District.

The district, the largest in the San Gabriel Valley, began the school
year about two weeks earlier than last year, well before neighboring
districts Rowland Unified and Walnut Valley Unified. Those districts
begin Aug. 20.
