History of the Whole Earth Catalog
I'm among those profoundly affected by the Whole Earth Catalog, which oddly enough I encountered in not the '70s but the '80s, when a new edition (probably the last) was published. It was called "The Next Whole Earth Catalog," and I pretty much wore it out over the years after I bought it.
If any book was a precursor to Google, Craigslist or the Web itself, it was "The Whole Earth Catalog."
