Who’s that at the door?

Just imagine this: You’re a registered independent voter who lives in Las Vegas. It’s around 5 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon. For weeks and weeks you’ve been getting calls from Barack Obama’s campaign and John McCain’s campaign. Then, right as you start making dinner there’s a knock at the door. Grudgingly, you go over and open it … and it’s Baron Davis!

Yes, really.

You’ve heard of athletes campaigning for politicians before, but have you ever heard of them knocking on doors? Well, now you have.

“I’m not a Democrat or a Republican, but I like Barack Obama a lot because I know he’s going to make a difference,” Davis said Thursday after Clippers practice. “I really admire him. …And I definitely want to use my voice to do everything I possibly can to get people out to vote for him. I’ve been doing a lot of blogging, GOTV (get out the vote), knocking on some doors. I want to go to the call centers too.”

Davis said he’ll focus his efforts on Nevada, where he’s registered to vote, but that he’ll continue to help fundraise for Obama in California. He hosted a fundraiser for the Illinois senator last spring and has already contributed the maximum $2,300 to his campaign, according to campaign finance data.
