Dallas 100, Clippers 98
Just got done watching the end of what is probably one of the Clippers toughest losses to swallow of the season. The Clippers just blew a 12-point fourth quarter lead and let a guy named Jose Barea flat out beat them at the end of what could've been a season-changing win.
Barea is a nice player. He's cat-quick, smart and fearless. But when you play against the Mavs, he's not the guy you want beating you.
Anyway, from my vantage point, here's what went wrong in the final few minutes.
1. Failure to get the ball to Zach Randolph
Randolph was a beast in this game, but at the end the Clippers stopped feeding him the ball in the post.
2. Settling for jumpers
Part and parcel with a failure to get Randolph the ball. The Clippers did not take a shot inside of 16 feet in the last 5:02 of the game.
3. Failure to take time off the clock
When you're trying to run out the clock, you can't take shots early in the shot clock. It's one thing if there's a clear path to the basket, but in the final five minutes of the game it really seemed like the Clippers shot way to quickly on several key possessions.
What do you think? Agree, disagree? Sound off:

I completely agree. God, that was awful
It's been that kind of a year so far...I never thought the Clippers were able to play well with leads since Dunleavy's been at the helm, but now when you throw Baron Davis into the mix it seems even worse. There a much better team with Randolph now, but if you can't close out games, what does it matter?
That lose was on BD hes the floor leader out there and should have recognized Randolph was dominating tonight. It was on him to get the ball into zebo in the last minutes everyone watching the game knew that was the right strategy to use. How does BD not recognize that? He did it the whole game why switch up in the last minutes? And that last shot was horrible! You can't play hero everytime PASS THE BALL!! People were open because teams already know BD'S going to take the shot no matter what so they send 3 guys at him knowing full well he's just going to dribble out the seconds and take some long 3. The guy can do so much more its a shame he settles for that everytime.
That loss hurt. You are correct Ramona Zach was tearing it up and then got shut down not by the Dallas Defense but by his own team. I blame it on Eric Gordon growing pains. He took 2 of the last 3 shots the last one being Baron's last second heave. EG's gotta recognize that it's admirable to be a hero but it's better to play smart team ball. Which reminds me of the new Clipper marketing slogan "Play Lousy".
I honestly think that was the worst loss of the year. It was the game that seemed to signal a new beginning for the Clips. Just dominating all game long and showing all the talent this team. But it turned out to be fools gold as the team reminded themselves and everyone else that what they do best this season is lose. I couldn't be more disappointed.
Ramona, is the off-court chemistry really that good? I have to question that given what I see out there on time-outs and such. In particular, Baron doesn't really seem to like anyone beyond Ricky and possibly Gordon and now Randolph.
Hey guys,
Some good points being made here. I was thinking the same thing as I watched Eric take those shots, but I really don't think he was the reason for the loss. Both of those looks were wide open looks. At the end of the game, you gotta take those shots. If you're afraid to take them, you shouldn't be on the court at the end of a game. Gordon made some big shots at the end of games during the preseason, and in that Denver game. He is comfortable taking those shots, which is admirable for a young guy.
As for the issue of chemistry. I think losing has a lot to do with it. It seemed to me that the Clippers had a pretty good locker room this season, but losing has a way of stinking that up. Basically, losing is tough. Especially losses like the Dallas game. It's not easy to stay together when things go so wrong. I haven't seen evidence of the locker room disintegrating yet, but it's certainly not as cheerful.
Thanks Ramona. I read mentioned somewhere that Baron and Coach Dunleavy had a long talk in front of the team bus last night. True?
The main important thing is that Clippers need communication, responsibility, and respect. They don’t have that so far this season. Unfortunately Clippers allowed Dallas to come back into the game because they did not do a very good job containing the backcourt and Nowitzki. They allowed Dallas shot a high percentage of shot how can you win without defense. We need a defensive minded coach like Van Gundy or Sam Mitchell to show these guys how to win unfortunately Dunleavy has been doin a terrible job on offensive and defensive sets. Baron and Ricky have been mainly held accountable for their losing streak upon their shot-selection hopefully that changes tonight against Memphis. Plus Randloph has done a good job since they grabbed them from the trade but he has to play better defensively and take better care of the basketball.
