Clippers win by one

Tyreke Evans had the chance to tie the game with 1.9 seconds on the clock with three free throws, but he missed the last one and the Clippers escaped with the one-point win over the Kings.

The Clippers went up 100-97 on a breakaway dunk by Eric Gordon with only seconds left in the game and then Evans tried tying it with a three at at the buzzer, but was fouled. He sank the first two foul shots, but missed the final one and while his teammates tried to tip it back, they missed the several opportunities and came up short.

Gordon – who ultimately had the game-winning shot – led Los Angeles with 31 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Blake Griffin had his 19th double-double of the season – tying the Clipper record with Michael Cage, who accomplished it in the 1986-1987 season. Griffin finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds and four assists while Baron Davis and Al-Farouq Aminu added 11 points apiece for the Clippers (10-22).

Evans led all scorers with 32 points while Omri Casspi had 16, Beno Udrih 14, Carl Landry 13, and Francisco Garcia scored 12.

Blake Griffin and double-doubles

Clippers forward Blake Griffin recorded his 24th double-double on Dec. 26, scoring 28 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Griffin’s 24 double-doubles this season is the second-highest total in the NBA next to Kevin Love’s 26.

Griffin has registered a double-double in 18 straight games, the longest streak in the NBAthis season and now the second longest double-double streak for the Clippers in the last 24 years. Since the 1986-87 season, former Clippers forward Michael Cage holds the Clippers record with 19 consecutive double-doubles from Dec. 10, 1986 – Jan. 16, 1987. Since the 2001-02 season, Griffin’s 18-game double-double streak is the 6th- longest in the NBA. Kevin Garnett has the record with 37 straight and places with the 5th, 7th and 8th spots. David Lee (2nd), Dwight Howard (3rd), Paul Milsap (4th) and Emeka Okafor (6th) are also on the list.

Griffin can continue his streak tonight against the Sacramento Kings at Arco Arena. Tipoff is at 7pm.

Clippers win by one over Bulls

Derrick Rose had the chance to tie the game and push it into overtime, but missed the second of two free throws and the Clippers escaped with a 100-99 win.
Rose drove to the basket with the potential game-tying points, the defense swarmed him and he was fouled with no time left. He calmly went to the line and sank the first free throw, but was short on the second – ending the game.

The Bulls (16-9) rallied in the second half after being down eight at halftime. They outscored the Clippers (7-21) by one in the third quarter and six in the fourth, with Rose leading the team with 34 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Carlos Boozer had 25 points for Chicago and Luol Deng scored 17.

Blake Griffin led Los Angeles with yet another double-double (29 points and 12 rebounds), while Baron Davis scored 16, Eric Gordon 15, Craig Smith 13 and Rasual Butler 11.

Its the second consecutive road win for the Clippers after not having one all season.

Clippers Highlights

Even though the Clips are currently 5-18 and are coming off a one-point loss to the Lakers last night, there are good things to focus on.

-Blake Griffin has 16 double-doubles in the season including 10 in a row (including last night). He has bumped his scoring average to over 20 per game, including a career-high 44 against the Knicks on Nov 20. He’s still in line for the Rookie of the Year Award and routinely has Sportcenter-type plays on a nightly basis – many of which are dunks – including this display against the Knicks.

-Eric Gordon has scored 20 or more points every game this season except one (19 points against Indiana) and has scored 24 in the three of the last four games. His season high is 32 points (against the Knicks) and 11 assists (in a loss against the Spurs on Nov 1.).

-Chris Kaman is the third-highest scorer on the team with over 10 ppg, but he’s only played in 10 games due to a sprained ankle.

The team is one of the youngest in the league and is dogged by injuries so far, which are hindering the veterans. Baron Davis is the most seasoned veteran (11 years experience), but he has been nursing a leg injury all year and has just returned recently. Kaman is a seven-year vet and also hampered by injuries. The rest of the starters or higher-minute players include Rasual Butler (8 years), Randy Foye (also previously injured), 4 years; Gordon (who missed time due to an injury) and Jordan (2 years each), Al-Farouq Aminu, Eric Bledsoe and Griffin (rookies).

Clippers lose a heartbreaker at the buzzer

Derek Fisher’s layup with no time left on the clock won it for the Lakers at Staples Center.

After DeAndre Jordan’s dunk with 15 seconds to go put the Clippers up by one, Kobe Bryant drove for the winning shot with time winding down, but he was fouled with three seconds left. Instead of shooting free throws, the Lakers took the ball out and then got it to Fisher for the game-winning bucket. The shot was so close to the buzzer that the referees had to verify the shot’s validity on the monitors after.

Eric Gordon led the Clippers with 24 points in the game and he added five rebounds and four assists, while Blake Griffin had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Eric Bledsoe scored 11. Jordan – who had the potential game-winning shot for the Clippers – finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers also with 24 points on 9 or 15 shooting, while Shannon Brown scored 16 off the bench and Pau Gasol had 10. Fisher ended the game with only six points – but he had the last two of the game.
