Bold statement from Neil Olshey

Ramona Shelburne, former writer at the LA Daily News who has since moved on to ESPNLA.com, has written this story about Blake Griffin and the Clippers.

This should please Clipper fans.

“It’s impossible to predict where Blake Griffin will be in the summer of 2014, when he will become an unrestricted free agent.

But as far as the Los Angeles Clippers are concerned, he’s not going anywhere.

“I can guarantee you he will only ever be a Clipper,” general manager Neil Olshey said of his prized rookie. “If [Oklahoma City Thunder general manager] Sam Presti arrived on Kevin Durant’s doorstep at midnight on July 1st with an extension, understand that Blake Griffin lives two blocks away from me in Manhattan Beach so it’s going to be a much shorter commute for me.”

Griffin has arguably been the most exciting rookie in the NBA since LeBron James. He’s averaging 22.5 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

The Clippers (15-25) have won 10 of their last 14 games, beating both the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers during that span.

“Blake will continue to do what he’s doing. So will Eric Gordon and so will the rest of the All-Rookie players we’ve drafted over the years,” said Olshey.

He’s been even better in 2011, averaging 27.6 points, 14.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists since Jan. 1.

“When it comes time for him to be a free agent, we won’t be losing,” Olshey said. “We’re not losing now. We’re 10 out of 14 now with our All-Star center [Chris Kaman] sitting around in a suit. The future looks pretty good. The only question will be, in two or three years with Blake, is how much more we’ll be winning.”

Clippers beat Lakers

Despite only having two points in the first half, Blake Griffin came roaring back in the second as the Clips defeated the Lakers 99-92 in a day game.

The Clippers (14-25) came alive in the second half with not only Griffin, but also by using a three guard set that opened up outside shooting for Baron Davis, Randy Foye and Eric Gordon, who finished with a game-high 30 points.

When Coach Vinny Del Negro put in the three guards at the same time, it not only set up each of them for passing to each other for three-point looks, but it also spread out the Lakers defense – which would try and cover the shooters and then leave Griffin open underneath.

With that setup, Davis had two three-pointers, while Gordon went 4-7 from behind the arc and Foye shot three and made two. The Clippers shot 9 of 21 from the three-point line overall, with Al-Farouq Aminu also hitting one.

Along with Gordon’s 30, Griffin finished the game with his 32nd double-double of the season – 18 points and 15 boards – while Davis had 14 and Foye nine.

Even with the Lakers’ three 7-footers inside, the Clippers managed to outrebound them 50-45 and had three players with 10 or more – Griffin and DeAndre Jordan with 15 apiece and Ike Diogu with 11.

Kobe Bryant scored 27 for the Lakers while Andrew Bynum added 18, Paul Gasol 13 and Lamar Odom and Ron Artest each scored 10.

Both teams play tomorrow also with the Clippers going against Indiana first, followed by the Lakers playing Oklahoma City.

Clippers lose to Warriors on the road

Golden State used an 11-point advantage in the second quarter to take a lead and a 10-0 run at the end to seal the home win over the Clippers.

Vladimir Radmanovic hit two three-pointers in the fourth quarter in the 10-0 rally that was the breaking point for the Clippers (13-25). Radmanovic finished the game with 13 points, while Stephon Curry had 23, Monta Ellis led the team with 30 and David Lee scored 19.

Blake Griffin had yet another double-double for the Clippers with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Eric Gordon also scored 28, Baron Davis had 15, Ike Diogu added 13 and DeAndre Jordan 11.

The Clippers had won three in a row before today and host the Lakers Sunday at Staples.

Clippers down at halftime

Even though they had the lead after the first quarter, the Clippers find themselves down at halftime 69-62.

Golden State (15-23) outscored Los Angeles (13-24) 34-23 in the second to erase the Clips four-point early advantage.

Monta Ellis, Stephon Curry and David Lee have led the charge for the Warriors with 21, 18 and 11 points respectively for the game so far.

Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon lead the Clippers with 13 points apiece, while Griffin has seven rebounds and Gordon has five assists. ike Diogu has 11 points for Los Angeles so far.

Clippers defeat the Miami Heat

The surging Clippers beat the Heat (30-10) 111-105 on the strength of their most impressive first quarter of the season.

The Clippers (13-24) scored 44 points in the first, then took a 19-point lead in the second and survived the inevitable comeback from one of the strongest teams in the league.

The 18-point lead in the first was big enough to hold on after the Heat outscored LA in each of the next three quarters.

The Clippers played a strong complete game and not only had distributed scoring and 33 assists as a team, but they only had 10 turnovers.

Again the combo of Eric Gordon (26 points, five rebounds and six assists) and Blake Griffin (24 points, 14 rebounds, six assists) led the balanced attack, but Baron Davis (20 points, nine assists and 5 rebounds) and Ryan Gomes (11 points) also had double-digit scoring, while Al-Farouq Aminu scored nine.

The Clippers have now won their third in a row, broke Miami’s 13-game road winning streak and have now gone 7-3 in the last 10 games.

Griffin’s double-double is his 30th this season
