Adam Silver apologizes to Magic Johnson for Donald Sterling’s comments

After Donald Sterling’s interview with CNN aired Monday night, NBA commissioner Adam Silver apologized to Magic Johnson on behalf of the league.

The already-banned Clippers owner told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that that Magic Johnson doesn’t do enough to help minorities, and brought up his HIV status as a reason that he sets a poor example for children.

“I just read a transcript of Donald Sterling’s interview with Anderson Cooper and while Magic Johnson doesn’t need me to, I feel compelled on behalf of the NBA family to apologize to him that he continues to be dragged into this situation and be degraded by such a malicious and personal attack,” Silver said. “The NBA Board of Governors is continuing with its process to remove Mr. Sterling as expeditiously as possible.”

Magic Johnson also interviewed with Cooper in a segment that will air Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.
