DeAndre Jordan doesn’t look at rebounding numbers, just victories

DeAndre Jordan now has 19 consecutive games with at least 14 rebounds. During that streak he has had as many as 27 and six times he’s had 20 or more.

After Jordan grabbed 16 rebounds in the Clippers’ 107-100 victory over New Orleans on Sunday, he was asked to talk about this run and if he goes into a game thinking about his lofty numbers and what he could get on a particular night. His response was reflective of a team player.

“I would be disappointed if I got however many and we lost,” Jordan said. “But that’s my job. My job is to defend as best I can and control the glass. I just try to go (rebound) every game. Defensively, I just want to limit them to one shot if they miss. I try not to give up offensive rebounds.”

Jordan then made everyone in Sunday’s postgame news conference laugh.

“There’s not a number that I go into a game saying I want to get,” he said. “My mom says that. But I just want to get all of them.”

Jordan leads the league in rebounding with a 14.8 average. The No. 2 guy – Andre Drummond of Detroit – isn’t even close as he’s averaging 13.3.
