Chris Paul says DeAndre Jordan needs to just ‘keep doing what he’s doing’

DeAndre Jordan scored 20 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked three shots in the Clippers’ 111-107 Game 2 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night at Staples Center. But he was just 6 of 17 from the free-throw line as Spurs coach Gregg Popovich used the ever-popular (with other coaches) Hack-a-DJ ploy.

Jordan’s free-throw percentage for the game was 35.2, lower than his 39.7 average during the regular season.

Teammate Chris Paul was asked after the game what he would say to Jordan in this regard.

“Nothing,” Paul said. “Tell him to keep doing what he’s doing and get ready for Game 3, just like all of us. We win as a team, we lose as a team. D.J. is fine. We’ll be ready for Game 3.”

It’s interesting to note that Jordan shot 12 free throws from the 5:43 mark of the fourth quarter until there was 2:50 left. He made four. During that time the Clippers went from trailing 88-80 to trailing by just 90-88.

The Western Conference first-round playoff series is tied 1-1. The teams will tangle Friday and Sunday in Games 3 and 4 at AT&T Center in San Antonio.
