Blake Griffin is in his sixth NBA season and the 6-foot-10 power forward is off to a fine start. Through seven games he’s averaging 28.6 points – fourth in the league – and 10 rebounds. Moreover, Griffin is shooting a sizzling 58.1 percent.

After Monday’s 94-92 victory over Memphis, coach Doc Rivers talked about Griffin at length. He mentioned how Griffin is taking on more of a leadership role. Starting small forward Lance Stephenson is in his first season with the Clippers, but he has taken notice of how Griffin is taking care of business in many ways.

“He is doing great,” Stephenson said. “He is always vocal and making sure we are on the same page with the unites. He is playing hard, playing aggressive, running the floor and doing his job while helping everybody else at the same time.”

Indeed, Griffin has been doing it all for the Clippers (5-2).

“He is our horse and we are going to keep feeding him,” point guard Chris Paul said. “We have to help him out a little bit, though. Blake is our MVP.”
