Although a Clippers team spokesman told this newspaper Monday that Blake Griffin was flying back home to Los Angeles because he was “just not game ready,” ESPN.com is reporting that Griffin was actually sent home because he sustained a hand injury that could keep him out several more weeks.
Griffin has missed the past 14 games with a partially torn left quad tendon. Coach Doc Rivers had said before the Clippers embarked on their current five-game East Coast swing that Griffin would likely return on the trip.
The last time Griffin played was Christmas night against the Lakers.
The Clippers play Tuesday at Indiana and finish their trip Wednesday at Altanta. The Clippers (28-16) are 1-2 on the trip.
