L.A. Clippers coach Doc Rivers on Friday night said the investigation of the fight this past Saturday in Toronto between forward Blake Griffin and Matias Testi – the team’s assistant equipment manager – is continuing.

Rivers said he believes that any punishment to be doled out to Griffin, who broke his right hand during the row, will likely be a collaboration of the team and the NBA.

“I think it will be dual, both parties will get together,” Rivers said before the Clippers took on the Lakers at Staples Center. “But usually the league leads in any of that stuff. As far as the investigation, I think it’s over or close to being over, so that’s good.”

Rivers touched on many issues during his pre-game news conference. He had already said he didn’t think alcohol was involved in the beef. But he was pressed more on that.

“Well, it depends on what you call alcohol,” he said. “I feel like Bill Clinton right now. It really does.”

There were laughs.

“Did guys have a drink?” he said. “I’m sure they did. But other than that, I’m going to say, no, alcohol wasn’t involved as far as the other stuff.”

The fight apparently started when Griffin and Testi exchanged insults at a restaurant. It continued outside. However, though Rivers said he has been given a full explanation of everything that happened, he would not provide further information.

“I don’t need to share anything with you guys,” he said. “It’s still in investigation, so I’m not going to go into detail about this thing. The way we look at it, though, is we are very satisfied with all the information we have.”

Griffin and Testi were not at the game Friday. Rivers was asked why Griffin wasn’t on hand.

“Because you guys are here,” he said.

Was this Griffin’s decision or the team’s?

“I think all of the above,” Rivers said. “I think he would have come, obviously. We have a game tonight, a game of basketball. That’s what we are actually getting paid for, to play the Lakers.

“And so we just feel like let’s wait until the investigation is over, then it’ll be out and we can talk about it. But until then, I have to try and play the Lakers. I know you guys want to do your jobs, but your job doesn’t affect my job.”
