Clippers point guard Chris Paul on Wednesday confirmed a Sports Illustrated report that he is pulling himself off the U.S. national team for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Paul was a finalist who still would have had to earn a spot on the 12-player roster.

Rowan Kavner of Clippers.com had this tweet  from Minnesota, where the Clippers will take on the Timberwolves on Wednesday evening: “Paul confirmed SI report that he will not be participating in the Olympics, wants to have time with family.”
