Playing on a night when it was revealed Blake Griffin sustained a fractured right hand over the weekend in Toronto when he punched the team’s assistant equipment manager – Matias Testi – the Clippers on Tuesday defeated the host Indiana Pacers 91-89 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Chris Paul led the Clippers (29-16) with 26 points and seven assists, J.J. Redick scored 19, Wesley Johnson had 15 points and DeAndre Jordan had nine points, 19 rebounds and three blocks. Jamal Crawford scored nine point, but he shot just 1 of 9 from the field.

The Clippers shot 41 percent, 40.5 percent (15 of 37) from 3-point range.

The Clippers are now 2-2 on this East Coast swing and finish the trip Wednesday at Atlanta.

Paul George led the Pacers 31 points and 11 rebounds, Myles Turner scored 16 off the bench and had 15 points.

Indiana (23-22), which has lost six of its past seven games, shot 42.2 percent overall, 31.3 percent (5 of 16) from beyond the arc.

The Clippers are now 12-3 without Griffin, who has not played since Christmas because of a partially torn left quad tendon. He actually might have returned in this game had he not broken his hand during the aforementioned altercation. He is now expected to miss four to six more weeks.

The Clippers, no doubt reeling from the latest bit of bad news regarding Blake Griffin, still had to go out and play Tuesday evening in Indiana.

The Clippers’ J.J. Redick scored 13 points and made 3 of 6 from 3-point range, but the Clippers trailed the Pacers 51-46 at the halftime break.

Chris Paul contributed seven points and five assists and Wesley Johnson and Jamal Crawford scored nine and seven off the bench, respectively.

The Clippers shot just 39.5 percent from the field in the half.

Myles Turner scored 16 off the bench for Indiana and Paul George had 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Clippers were hopeful Griffin would return on this five-game road trip from a partially torn left quad tendon. But Griffin sustained a fractured right hand Saturday when he punched out the team’s assistant equipment manager – Matias Testi – at a restaurant in Toronto. Griffin will now miss four to six more weeks.

VIDEO: Check out what Paul George does to DeAndre Jordan

Paul George of the Indiana Pacers broke his right leg in gruesome fashion in August 2014. He played in only six games this past season because of that.

That makes what George is doing so far this season even more tremendous. He scored 31 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, doled out four assists, made three steals and did not have a turnover in 40 minutes and 38 seconds of action in the Pacers’ 103-91 victory over the Clippers at Staples Center. He is now averaging 27.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals.

Not that DeAndre Jordan should have to be guarding a small forward out on the perimeter, but watch what George does to Jordan on this play:

Five things to take from Clippers’ 103-91 defeat to Indiana Pacers

J.J. Redick

– This loss isn’t really all that bad. Yes, Clippers players afterward said this was a game they could have won. But let’s face it, they were without their two starting guards – Chris Paul and J.J. Redick. And that’s a problem against one of the best teams in the league – at least from a record standpoint. At 12-5, the Pacers are second in the Eastern Conference to Cleveland (13-5). Paul missed with inflamed rib cartilage and Redick came out 17 seconds into the game with a sprained right ankle and did not return.

– With two of the team’s top three scorers – meaning Paul and Redick – out, Blake Griffin could not pick up the slack. He was heavily guarded and scored 19 points on just 6 of 18 shooting. Griffin also pulled down only four rebounds. Stunningly, he didn’t get his first until there were five minutes left in the game. How the heck does that happen? He had six assists, and four turnovers.

Doc Rivers told reporters that without Paul and Redick his team lacked offensive rhythm and that DeAndre Jordan is one of those affected by it. Jordan scored only two points on 0 of 4 shooting; he was 2 of 8 from the free-throw line. Jordan did have 15 rebounds, but the Clippers were outrebounded 47-40. The Clippers (10-9) have won the rebounding war in just one game this season.

Lance Stephenson had a nice offensive night, scoring 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting. He also had three rebounds, three assists, one steal and two turnovers in 28 minutes off the bench. But Rivers said Stephenson did not have a very good night defensively.

– We can’t let this go without mentioning Paul George of the Pacers. The 6-foot-9 small forward is having a superb start to this season. He entered this game averaging 27.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He scored a game-high 31 points. He shot just 9 of 23 overall, but he was 5 of 9 from 3-point range. He pulled down 10 rebounds, doled out four assists, made three steals and did not turn the ball over in 40 minutes. Considering his August 2014 ordeal that saw him suffer a vicious broken right leg during a Team USA Blue-White game, he is quite a story. He played in just six games in 2014-15.

Sans Chris Paul and J.J. Redick, Clippers up 50-47 on Pacers

Playing without Chris Paul and J.J. Redick, the Clippers were down 14-5 early against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday at Staples Center. But the Clippers regrouped and took a 50-47 lead into the halftime break.

Paul was on the bench in street clothes with inflamed rib cartilage. Redick started, but went down with a sprained right ankle 17 seconds into the game and did not return; he might play in the second half.

Blake Griffin led the Clippers (10-8) with 13 first-half points and Lance Stephenson had 12. Paul George led Indiana (11-5) with 17 points.

Jamal Crawford: Paul George is the ‘head of the snake’ for Pacers

Paul George of the Indiana Pacers played only six games this past season because of a broken leg. But the small forward demonstrated how good he was the season before that when he averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists, so it has been no surprise to see what he’s done through 16 games here in 2015-16.

George is averaging 27.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He’s shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point range.

The Pacers are 11-5. They went 38-44 this past season, and missed the playoffs.

Indiana is in town to take on the Clippers (10-8) on Wednesday night at Staples Center. Clippers sixth-man Jamal Crawford said a mouthful when asked about George.

“He is the head of the snake,” Crawford said. “I do not expect one person to guard him. But, obviously, it will be a team effort.”
