The Los Angeles Superior Court just issued an advisory that a small electrical fire damaged the toll-free lines that serve the Jury Services Division. That means people trying to call 800-SRV-JURY to register, postpone service or ask questions about jury duty might get a busy signal. Jurors are encouraged to call back or refer to www.lasuperiorcourt.org for general jury information. Although repair crews started working early Wednesday, it will be Monday, May 19, before telephone service is fully restored.

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
