If you've got jury duty this week...

... You are in luck! The California Court system is celebrating its 10th annual Juror Appreciation Week, beginning today. To thank the approximate 2.7 million potential jurors who report for duty every year, those who are called in to court for their civic duty this week will be treated to refreshments and freebies, depending on where you go. The Los Angeles Superior Court has for you ... hold on to your hats ... pencils and water bottles! If that doesn't say patriotism, I don't know what does.

Maybe they're really cool pencils. Like, maybe they have little gavel-shaped erasers.

Have some faith in the justice system, woman!

Denis, you say that like I don't think pencils and water bottles are the BEST THING EVER! A lot of people shirk their civic duty because of the imposition on their lives (even though I personally think being a juror, even without freebies, is still pretty cool). But NOW, there will be no shirking! There is lead to be written with and water to be drunk from plastic-leeching eco-unfriendly vessels. What more can the citizens of this proud country want?

Uh, pencils totally have graphite in them now, not lead. I should know, I spent the better part of my teenage years being stabbed by them.

AND WHERE WAS YOUR JUSTICE SYSTEM THEN!!!!!!
