The neighbors in the 1900 block of 230th Street knew Thursdays were a big day for 5-year-old Tyler Pick. Tyler loved trash trucks and came out to watch them on his street. In memory of Tyler, the neighbors are holding a vigil on the block today from noon to 2 p.m.

Tyler was shot and killed Monday night by his father, Steven Pick. Pick also killed his mother-in-law and shot his wife before committing suicide.

Larry Altman has covered crime in the South Bay since 1990. He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
