Thanks for the questions. Here's what happened, according to Manhattan Beach police Sgt. Steve Tobias:
Reader Evan Gould asks:
"I am a resident of the 1900 block of Plant Avenue in North Redondo. Last Saturday, May 10, there was a police helicopter that buzzed around the intersection of Robinson and Aviation.
The helicopter circled the same area for two hours, shining a light onto the ground. At one point, the loudspeaker on the chopper instructed people to stay inside their homes, doors locked. I have checked in the Daily Breeze.com website and have not seen any info on the incident. So I was wondering, what happened that night?"

"I live in North Redondo and on Saturday night there were several police cars (as well as a search helicopter) in my neighborhood.
The loud speaker from the helicopter warned of a K9 search of a felon and for the people of the neighborhood to stay in their homes and lock their doors. I was wondering if you could tell me what was going on. I would like to know if there is anything that I should be concerned about from Saturday night's activities."

Two male teenagers walked up to a 16-year-old boy on foot in the 1600 block of Gates Avenue shortly after 10 p.m.
One pulled a gun and pushed it against the 16-year-old's neck.
The victim, however, was able to grab the weapon and disarm the gunman.
The victim called police, who responded and quickly arrested one of the suspects. The second teen ran and was located and arrested near a residence several blocks away.
Police investigated and learned the gun was actually a realistic-looking pellet gun.
Two teens -- a 16-year-old Los Angeles boy and a 15-year-old Lawndale boy -- were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.

Thanks for the follow-up!
The helicopter was over my house as well announcing the same thing, but I live right near Goodman and Ormond in Redondo. At about 10pm there were about 7 squad cars and officers blocking off a few blocks. The police were searching a house in he 1600 block of Goodman. At around 11:15 they brought the K9 in for a house to house search (backyard). I hadn't heard anything about any apprehension of the suspect on the police scanner (online). Sometime around 11:45 the helicopter left and at midnight, police presence was still here. Not sure if these incidents are related.
