Here's something we never knew about when it happened:

The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office just notified us that a former Wilmington Middle School vice principal has been convicted of placing a 14-year-old male student on his desk, putting his hands under his clothes and touching the poor kid inappropriately.

William Harberts, 61, of Garden Grove was found guilty in April of one misdemeanor count of battery. A judge ordered him never to teach again and to stay away from children.

A story on what happened in March 2007 will appear in the Daily Breeze on Saturday and on dailybreeze.com, but here's the sick basics:
A fellow counselor needed to use the copy machine in Harberts' office, unlocked the door and stumbled upon the crime. The boy was on Harberts' desk. Harberts' arms were around his waist.

Needless to say, the other counselor was shocked. She reported him to the principal and the police.

According to testimony during a recent trial in Long Beach, Harberts had put his hands under the boy's clothing and was feeling him up. When the other school employee walked in, he pulled his hands out from under the youth's clothes, but kept them on the boy's waist.

And get this: That wasn't the only time this occurred. The boy told police it happened on several other occasions.

Deputy City Attorney Matthew St. George said Harberts admitted to the police that he committed "skin-to-skin" contact and testimony during the trial indicated that Harberts on occasion "would pull at the young man's pubic hair."

Jurors found Harberts guilty following five days of testimony.

Judge Arthur Jean on Thursday sentenced Harberts to five years of probation, and ordered him to perform 60 days of Caltrans roadside work or 480 hours of community service.

He also must receive a year of psychological counseling.

This guy should be on his way to jail. I really doubt that this is the first time he's assaulted a kid. Why didn't the judge order him to register as a sex offender? And how come were just hearing about this case now. Isn't it in the public interest, for the public to be in formed when a school V.P.is arrested and charged with child molestation. I hope that the Daily Breeze will investigate this case further, and find out what's really going on. Something really smells, aside from this child molester.
