Six veteran Los Angeles Superior Court judges, including the presiding judge, are spending a week handling traffic court matters at the Metropolitan Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. They are hoping to help reduce a backlog of cases that has drivers waiting about six months until their first court appearances. They're expected to motor through about 2,250 misdemeanor or infraction traffic arraignments in four courtrooms.

Los Angeles Superior Court Presiding Judge (and Palos Verdes Peninsula resident) J. Stephen Czuleger, Civil Department Supervising Judge Lee S. Edmon, Judge Elizabeth Grimes, Civil Department Assistant Supervising Judge Rex Heeseman, Judge Jane L. Johnson and Judge Ann I. Jones were expected to start hearing cases this morning.

He's seen it all - the missing model who turned up dead in the desert, the wives found dead in trunks, the high-school coaches who get a little too close to their players. He drives his young colleagues nuts with his "I remember when" stories. He welcomes your tips and observations about the present, and you can mix in a little Lakers basketball talk if you like.
