An aspiring actor-comedian -- he's 37 -- who works as a guide for tours of movie stars' homes has been charged with setting fire to a family's rented sport utility parked under a fully-occupied Hermosa Beach hotel on July 6.

No one knows why Derek Padraig O'Donnell, 37, of North Hollywood allegedly did it.

Firefighters say sprinklers helped protect the building from burning down.

Full story coming to Dailybreeze.com and Thursday's print edition.

Sickened by the System That Fails the Innocent said:

You should do the true journalist's job and get your facts from actual research. Reading a court docket and then forming a completely biased opinion does not make you a journalist, it makes you fradulent journalist. The facts surrounding this case show that O'Donnell did NOT commit this crime but the first suspect Jason Proctor lied and nobody seems to care about that. Meanwhile, O'Donnell, an innocent citizen with NO PRIOR RECORD of any kind has been sitting in jail for 6 MONTHS while the system has failed him simply because the flunkie arson investigators need to pin this on someone. Better watch out, you might be "charged" with a crime you did not commit and end up in jail with not nearly enough evidence to convict you either. It's a scary thought. I thought this was America where every legal citizen has rights that should be respected. Practically the entire Bill of Rights that applies has been violated in O'Donnell's case. I guess that's because L.A. County is like a third world country. What can you expect with a state that is bankrupt and run by the Terminator.
