Former L.A. Rams kicker charged with rape
Tony Zendejas, who once kicked for the L.A. Rams (if you can remember a time that Los Angeles had football), was arrested today for allegedly drugging a female patron at his Pomona bar and raping her, according to the District Attorney's office.
From their release:
Antonio Zendejas, 48 (dob 5-15-60), is charged with one felony count each of rape by use of drugs, rape of an unconscious person, sodomy by anesthesia or controlled substance and sodomy of an unconscious victim, said Deputy District Attorney Rouman Ebrahim with the Sex Crimes Division. The felony complaint also alleges he caused great bodily injury.
Zendejas, who retired in 1995 after playing for 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Oilers, Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers, was arrested early this morning at his Yorba Linda home by Los Angeles County Sheriff's detectives. He is being held on $260,000 bail.
On Jan. 26, Zendejas allegedly gave a female patron at his restaurant and bar a drink which made her groggy. She allegedly woke up in a nearby motel room and reported to authorities she had been raped. L.A. County Sheriff's detectives launched an investigation.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in state prison. His arraignment in case KA083673 is scheduled for Friday at Pomona Superior Court.
