The principal of a small Westchester high school appeared in a downtown courtroom today for arraignment on child pornography charges, but the proceeding was postponed until July 24.

Randolph Cornfield, principal of 40-student Del Rey Continuation High School, is charged with two felony counts for the for the images allegedly found on his home computer.

"Posing as a 12-year-old girl, Cornfield allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversation in an Internet chat room and offered to provide nude photos," according to release issued yesterday by the District Attorney's Office. "Authorities were tipped off and after executing a search warrant, allegedly discovered child pornography at Cornfield's Playa Del Rey residence," according to the statement.

Cornfield, 60, has worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1982.
If convicted, he faces up to three years and eight months in prison, according to prosecutors.
